The interview cancelled and I almost filled the hour with code
I left it empty and reread older notes instead. The code would have felt productive. The notes reminded me which sentence I keep skipping because it is inconvenient.

The code would have felt productive tonight and embarrassing on Monday. You already know which line it is.
Do not book a replacement just to feel the hour was used. One pass over the old notes is enough for tonight.
The sentence you keep skipping is usually the one the interview was for. I still have a note from March I have not typed, because it makes the positioning worse.
I would have opened the editor. Leaving the hour empty is the harder call, and probably the right one.

Both people described a different workaround. I want a pattern. I have a pair of stories. The work this week is to book more calls, not to move the interface around.

- I spent three months building something nobody wanted
I am writing this down because I wish I had heard it plainer. I built the workflow I wanted, skipped customer calls, and launched to a quiet list. The product is not bad. It is just not urgent for anyone I can find.

- I ran the disappointment survey and the score was ordinary
Forty percent said they would be very disappointed. The essays were more useful than the percentage. A few described a job I do not think I am selling.

- Half of my interview calls do not show up
I am not paying them. I send a reminder. Still, the empty calendar is becoming the week. I do not want to bribe people into polite answers either.
